TORREQUEBRADA

Friday 10/06/16 takes us to a new course Torrequebrada. This year we will be doing things a little different by going straight to the course from the airport. Just a 20 minute drive from Malaga airport takes us to one of the top 100 Spanish golf courses (61st).

Torrequebrada is not too long at around 6,400 yards, but length is no indication of difficulty here. The course hugs the contours on a hilly landscape, testing golfers to the full with an array of sparkling water hazards, doglegged fairways and cunningly placed greenside bunkers.

The tree lined fairways rise and fall over the challenging terrain, twisting one way then the other, rising here then dipping there on a real roller coster golf ride that sees many visiting golfers return for a stern examination of their golf game year after year. Miguel Angel Jimenez has been known to be spotted practicing at Torrequebrada , so you never know he may find himself in a Barry Mac headlock if he's not polite!!

ALMENARA

After a days rest visting the local sites, Sunday 12/06/16 we take the short trip to the 27 hole Almenara Golf Club. The course opened in 1999 with 18 holes and in 2001 opened an additional 9 holes. Almenera is ranked the 51st best course in Southern Spain.

Almenara is a noble field, on which you must play in an intelligent and accurate way. The first nine holes 'Pinos' (Pines) run along the forested area of Sotogrande, the second 'Alcornoques' (Cork) flows through an open zone that features a spectacular lake, and the third 'Lagos' (Lakes) part contains some of the most impressive holes in Europe, which runs along a series of large lakes as well.

Kevin Costner has been spotted at Almenara, not playing golf but filming Waterworld.

An additional prize will be up for grabs at Almenara for the golfer who loses the least golf balls.

LA CANADA

For those of us with any golf balls left, Monday 13/06/16 sees us take another short trip this time taking us to the impressive La Canada Golf Course ranked the 55th best course in Southern Spain.

For twenty years La Canada was a fine 9 hole set up, until the club appointed Dave Thomas in 2002 to add an additional nine holes, extending the original Robert Trent Senior layout to a full 18 hole course.

The Thomas holes now form the front nine, laidout near the main road, whilst the RTJ back nine occupy the more undulating landscape, characterized by fine bunkering and interesting greens.

The better holes on the course are undoubtedly the par five 10th and (stroke index 1) hole 12, but the best is saved until the last where a brave tee shot is called for at the 18th, across an intimidating ravine, with fine views of the Guadiaro river and Mediterranean Sea in the background.
